Karakusa bento is a three tiered box with a deep and warm red lacquered inside. They are pretty big, so you may want to use them for picnics or a buffet but they can actually also be used as a storage box or for a TV dinner time. This is one neat and classy versatile box!
Can't clearly tell if the patterns are traditional or not? The Karakusa ("Arabesque") found on this box actually comes from the Ancient Greece and Egypt times: They were brought to Japan through China and the Silkroad centuries ago and slowly adapted by local peoples. You can often find this pattern used in Japan to adorn Kimono or Furoshiki for instance.
